Electricians for Modular Building Manufacturers

Complete electrical fit-out of modular and transportable buildings, in the factory: distribution boards, subcircuits, lighting, power, data, testing, commissioning and certification of every unit, then site completion and interconnection when it lands. It's production-line electrical work with a certificate at the end of every module, and it's 1 of the things we're most set up for.

What we do in the factory

  • Distribution board per module, sized to the unit's load and to the site supply it will connect to.
  • Subcircuits, power and lighting to the module's drawings, roughed in while the frame is open and fitted off when the linings are on.
  • Data, comms and security cabling in the same pass, so the module arrives ready for the site's network.
  • Testing and commissioning of every circuit, recorded against the module's serial, with insulation resistance, polarity, earth continuity and RCD tests done before it leaves.
  • Certification. A certificate of compliance for the module's installation.

What we do on site

Testing a modular building's wiring with the cabling still open.

When the modules land, the electrical work is interconnection: submains between modules and to the site main switchboard, joining the modules' circuits where the design splits across them, external lighting and services, final testing of the completed installation, and the site certificate. Because the modules were tested in the factory, site time is short and the surprises are few. Our guide to modular building electrical fit-out and commissioning walks through both ends of the job. Why manufacturers use a contractor rather than in-house sparkies

Throughput varies. A manufacturer with 3 in-house electricians is overstaffed in a quiet month and 2 weeks behind in a busy one. A contractor with 10 electricians flexes to the line: 1 electrician on a slow week, 4 on a big order, and the compliance paperwork is done the same way every time regardless of who was on the tools. The manufacturer keeps the certification consistent and gets the labour it needs when it needs it.

Site types

Modular classrooms and school buildings, site offices and accommodation, medical and consulting modules with body-protected areas where the design calls for them, commercial and retail modules, and transportable homes. Where the site is a school or a health facility, the sector's own compliance regime applies to the completed installation and we build to it from the factory.

FAQs

Modular building: questions we get asked

Can you keep up with a production line?

Yes. That's the point of having 10 electricians. We scale the crew to the order rather than asking the line to wait.

Do you certify each module?

Yes. Every module is tested and commissioned in the factory and certified as an installation. The site interconnection is then tested and certified as the completed installation.

Can you do the site work in another region?

Our service area is metro Adelaide and surrounds. For modules delivered further afield we can do the factory work and coordinate with a local electrician for interconnection, or discuss the site with you case by case.

Do you work to our drawings or produce them?

We work to your drawings and give design input where the electrical scope needs it, particularly on board sizing and how circuits split across modules.
