What a medical fit-out involves
- Body-protected and cardiac-protected areas to AS/NZS 3003 wherever patients are connected to equipment: treatment rooms, procedure rooms, dental chairs, physio and podiatry rooms. RCD protection at the right rating, equipotential bonding, and the testing that proves it.
- Consulting and treatment room power and lighting, with the outlet counts and circuit separation medical equipment actually needs.
- Data and comms for practice management, imaging and telehealth.
- Emergency and exit lighting to AS 2293, tested 6-monthly.
- Switchboards sized for imaging, sterilisation and air conditioning loads, with room for the equipment the practice buys next year.
- Certification of the completed installation, with the body-protected area tests recorded separately.
Maintenance and compliance for existing practices
For practices already open, the work is annual testing of body-protected areas, RCD testing, emergency lighting testing, and the fault service that keeps a busy practice running. We keep the register, schedule the visits around clinic hours, and make sure the folder is complete before an accreditation visit rather than after.
Working in an open practice
Nobody can close a practice for a fit-out. We stage the work room by room, start at 6am so the noisy part is done before the first patient, and arrange out-of-hours work where a room can't be touched during the day. Infection control and site cleanliness are treated as part of the job, not an afterthought.
Modular medical units
Where a practice is being delivered as a modular building, the body-protected areas are built and tested in the factory and certified on site. See modular building.
